Do Houses Really Sell in the Fall & Winter Months?

It’s around this time of the year that we get calls from potential sellers asking if they should bother listing their house for sale, since fall and winter are around the corner. They wonder, "Who buys houses this time of the year?"  Answer, "People who need a place to live."  In fact, from our many years of real estate experience, we know that homes sell all year round!

There are a few definite advantages to marketing your home for sale during the fall and winter months, such as;

1.) The buyers are more serious. The “tire kickers” come out in the warmer months.  In the fall and winter months, buyers look at real estate when they need to move.

2.) Due to the current low inventory of homes for sale, buyers are forced to shop year round.

3.)  There’s less competition.  The majority of sellers believe their chances of selling go down in the fall and winter, so they don’t even try.  Inventory starts to decline even further in the fall.  Fewer listings on the market put you in a position to capture your buyer!

The reality is that there are people with reasons for moving all year around (marriage, divorce, downsizing, upsizing, transfer, etc.)  If you’re ready to sell your house, you just need to go for it!
