Are we heading towards a housing market slow down? The economy is booming, unemployment is at record lows, and the stock market is at record highs. But there are signs that we’re headed for a shift that could impact the housing market. Since the release of the “June 2018 - Existing Home Sales Report”, which shows existing home sales have decreased for the 3rd straight month, there have been mixed reviews from economists about the future of the housing market. Likewise, sales of newly constructed U.S. single-family homes fell to an eight-month low in June and data for the prior month was revised sharply down, indicating that the housing market was slowing down. Some economists feel this is a temporary bump, while others feel we’re heading towards a housing market slow down and downward price adjustment.
Though the moderation in housing is largely driven by supply constraints, there are concerns that persistent weakness in the housing market will eventually spill over to the broader economy. Unfortunately, the housing market has underperformed so far this year.
Given such mixed signals, engaging the market now - whether as a buyer, seller, or landlord, calls for you to have an expert Realtor as your partner.
